I would not say that this is true of all of them. As there are some who are elitist and genuinely believe that society cannot get buy without their guiding, ruling hand.
With that said, much of what is said certainly rings true.
A veteran psychiatrist now claims that liberalism is a mental disorder, not purely a political choice.
“Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded,” said Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness.
“Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.”
In other words, it’s not their fault. (That statement sounds suspiciously liberal to me.)
What I’m not cool with is behavior that clearly looks like liberal lunacy to me… behavior that I previously just chalked up to lousy parenting, pure ignorance or perhaps a shortage of oxygen in utero. I never imagined the craziness I witness daily on the left might actually be certifiable by professionals.
Here’s an example. Just because I’m a constitutional conservative, liberals love to libel me: they deign to know what I think, feel and believe. Newsflash to libs: I don’t share every single belief held by every single person on the right, just as many bible-carrying, pew-kneeling, rosary-bead-praying Catholics don’t subscribe to every single tenant of their religion. I know divorced Catholics, Catholics who’ve had abortions, Catholics who’ve texted nude pictures of themselves and surfed porn sites… I even know gay Catholics. The point is, they all still consider themselves Catholics.
I’m not insane: I know the futility of engaging or entering into discussions, debates and mudslinging about incendiary topics that inflame both sides of the aisle, like: abortion, gay marriage, gays in the miltary, Obama’s birth certificate, Obama’s religion, Obama’s choice of pastor, Obama’s friends, prayer in schools, prayers in Congress, memorial crosses on public lands, and, of course, the so-called “truth” about 9/11. (This is an abbreviated list, of course.)
Life’s too short, and libs just act too crazy about this stuff. Instead, I prefer to focus on the most important tenant of constitutional conservatism: reducing the size, power and cost of a centralized federal government, while returning power, money and liberty to the states and We, the People.
That being said, before Dr. Rossiter’s press release hit the AP, I suspected liberalism might be a disease, like insanity. Why else would so many libs act so ka-ray-zee? (Not all, my lovely lib family and friends, not all!)
For example, on the Nevada Politics Facebook page this week, I mentioned I lean to the right, and BAM! I was immediately (and repeatedly) accused of being: stupid, a Nazi, a no-nothing (as in, I know nothing), a “BIRFER,” a friend of the uber-wealthy, a sheep for corporate tools, an advocate of child labor and 60-hour work weeks, a moron, a freaky teabagger, an idiot, a pro-nuke bagger and finally, “an extremist tea bagger writing revisionist history and scapegoting regular working people.”
Nothing I wrote in any previous discussion, nor anywhere on the net, could lead a sane person to deduce and declare those things about me. They were pure fiction, fantasy and fallacy, violently spewed forth like projectile vomit by several liberals at Nevada Politics, including one decidedly vile, ungentlemanly-man, whose parents aptly named him “Dick.”
I’m sure my final attempt at humor (and logic) perturbed him. “If conservatives are ‘Teabaggers,’ then liberals are our ‘Teabaggees’… which means we’ve got you by the balls, Dick.”
Thank you, Dr. Rossiter, for positing that liberalism is a mental disorder. I couldn’t agree more.

Tired of watching all the bad news on TV these days? Millions are turning to MSNBC in what psychologists call “a harbor away from reality”.
Fred Stimple, from Old Forge, NY, a school teacher reported he was really getting depressed with all the bad news about the economy, wars, unrest in the world, but found a safe haven at MSNBC. “I was sitting there in front of the TV, sort of like a zombie, channel surfing when all of a sudden I hit MSNBC. There was a sorta manly looking woman, Rachel something…like ‘Mad Cow’ or a name similiar, with all this brainless made up stuff she was babbling. I just sat there transfixed, thinking about how funny it was she thought anyone would take her seriously. It was a nice break, sort of like a lobotomy.”
Stimple has become a regular, and says he appreciates MSNBC running the show many times a night, so he can catch up on absolutely nothing that’s going on in the world. “I even found a major new comedian, someone named Barney Frank, on MSNBC. He’s hilarious!”
The phenomena seems to be spreading, and not just to MSNBC; CNN is also benefiting offering absolutly nothing in the way of information. Tracy Adams, a pole dancer from Houston Texas tunes in CNN often. “I was trying to find something on cable that wasn’t news, and I found this programs with a guy named Wolf Blitzer, who’s obviously ADD. Since I’m also studying psychology during the day, it’s thoughtful of CNN to help me with my homework by putting a textbook case of ADD, and who knows what other abnormal behaviors, right on cable TV for me, daily. I like it when he gets himself all worked up, then they have a break, and he’s all calm again. I wonder if on the break he twists up a big fat doobie?”
Mr Stimple says he has to be circumspect when watching MSNBC: “I do have kids around the house, and you wouldn’t want someone under the age of 12 watching MSNBC, due to possible impairment of their mental development. But for an adult with a firm grasp on reality, while less intellectually stimulating than the Cartoon Network, at least it is in color, unlike old Three Stooges episodes.”
WASHINGTON (AP) — A new assessment of President Barack Obama’s budget released Friday says the White House underestimates future budget deficits by more than $2 trillion over the upcoming decade.
The estimate from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says that if Obama’s February budget submission is enacted into law it would produce deficits totaling $9.5 trillion over 10 years — an average of almost $1 trillion a year.
Obama’s budget saw deficits totaling $7.2 trillion over the same period.
The difference is chiefly because CBO has a less optimistic estimate of how much the government will collect in tax revenues, partly because the administration has rosier economic projections.
UPDATE - Forbes reports that 13 year old pop sensation Rebecca Black already a millionaire. Black’s catchy tune “Friday” crushed the iTunes top 100 netting Ms. Black over $1.4million, not including YouTube ad revenue sharing on her video which has netted over 31 million views. Black is still accelerating on the iTunes top 100 chart.
What a charming first video for a 13 year old girl who had a dream and took a risk.
The video went viral.
Ms. Black comes across as charming and approachable. The production value of the video is pretty good especially considering the budget used. I wish her well. Let us hope that the coming attention and money does not exceed her character.
ARK Music Factory made this clever rap remix of the song. It is quite good.
The critics are done. The word is in. Simon Cowell loves the song.
Of course most of the nutty commenters are siding with the people making the death threats and condemning the author for just telling the truth, that conservative bloggers got the story right. There have been dozens of death threats in recent weeks, and violence (LINK1, LINK2) and the elite media ignores it all. Of course Fox is the only one with the guts to report it.
Wisconsin Democrat Gordon Hintz to Female Republican Michelle Litjens After Budget Vote: “You Are F*cking Dead!
Do you think of Republicans and the Tea Party as dangerous, violent extremists?
Do you think the Wisconsin protests over GOP Governor Scott Walker’s move to strip public sector employees of collective bargaining were peaceful?
Do you scoff at the right wing notion that mainstream media like the New York Times, the TV networks and NPR have a liberal media bias against the conservatives?
If you answered ‘yes’ to all three of those questions, then let me ask you one more…
Why isn’t the mainstream media talking about the death threats against Republican politicians in Wisconsin?
Try to set aside whatever biases or preconceptions you might have for a moment and ask yourself why death threats against politicians aren’t considered national news, especially in the wake of the all too fresh shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and other bystanders. And there hasn’t just been one death threat, but a number of them.
Here’s an example and it’s real…..
So of course the post went viral. I have been watching it on and off for hours the moderates came in and cleaned up the comments … LOL
Jim Treacher asks: What’s with all the death threats libs?
Somebody just sent James O’Keefe this lovely message on Twitter. [WARNING: Rude, moronic, violent language]
I’m going to assume this guy’s name is Mike Clark, and his Twitter bio says he’s in Memphis, TN. Sending somebody a death threat is dumb to begin with, but doing so via a Twitter account with your name and location on it? That takes a special brand of stupid.
Ann Althouse just received a direct threat to her person as well. Like O’Keefe, Althouse has raised the ire of the left by videotaping them in action. Tell the truth and they call it lies. Make your point nonviolently and they threaten you. It’s like clockwork.
And it doesn’t stop there. John Nolte at Big Government has put together a compilation of the last three weeks of left-wing threats and bullying in Wisconsin. It’s getting so bad that honest liberals (no, it’s not an oxymoron) like Lee Stranahan are fed up with the media ignoring these threats. “Don’t retreat, reload” is considered violent rhetoric if a conservative says it, but “I’m going to kill you” isn’t considered violent rhetoric if a liberal says it. I keep trying not to attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence, but are all these big-brained reporters really that inept?
By the way, if you want to bug me about this supposed “debunking” of O’Keefe’s video that I’m supposed to care about, read this, this, this, and this. And then, if you still want to whine about how a “discredited” guy like James O’Keefe keeps making fools of you, go bug NPR. If you can convince them it’s all just a lie, maybe those poor NPR execs will get their jobs back.
If I was a cold political strategist <grin> I would say OK Dems lets get you to puff your chests all up and be ready to shut the govt down for taxpayer dollars for abortion mills that cater to child prostitution and underage rape victims without reporting it (its on video), NPR execs who are willing to launder known terrorist money to trash Republicans (Thank you James!), and to the Cowboy Poetry Festival and have that fight.
While mocking them and their sacred cows listed above, I would drag them through the mud and use the publicity to let everyone know about the hidden multibillion dollar slush finds in Obamacare that the Dems told no one about.
I would use a government shut down to get the media attention on all of this and be aggressive. THEN I would repeal it.
My reasoning:
1 – What the Democrats have done is sleazy in a big, big way. They need to pay a very severe political price for it; especially the hidden slush funds.
2 – Most people don’t know the nature of the slush fund problem. The more the public knows the better it is for the GOP.
3 – The Democrats want a govt shut down anyways. First they said they won’t stand for $100b in cuts so the GOP compromised and lowered it to $61b. Then the Democrats said, no the $61b is draconian (silly ins’t it) we will meet you half way with a $10b cut (in Democrat math 10 is half of 61), Than it was if you accept the $10b cut, we also want full funding for NPR and Planned Parenthood etc. Do you see how Democrats keep moving the bar? They want a shutdown and seem hellbent on creating one so when it does that will be the time to wage a massive PR offensive.
There is a large fifth column of Americans who sympathize with our jihadist enemies and wish our nation ill. These are the people who seek to block every inquiry into Islamic terror, and every attempt to refer to “Islamic terror,” with cries of “McCarthyism” and “witch-hunt.” These attacks are designed to demonize the inquirers as “Islamophobes” and bigots who want to “lynch all Muslims.” This attempt by leftists and jihadists to conflate all Muslims with terrorists is merely the latest in a long history of radical attempts to hide their terrorist fish in the “ocean of the people.”
This very accusation was actually leveled at me at Brooklyn College the other night, after an hour-long talk I gave detailing the hate-filled, genocidal agendas of Hizbollah, Hamas, the rulers of Iran and the terrorist agents of the Palestinian Authority. [To see the full talk, Click Here] During my talk, I provided chapter and verse documentation of the bloody-thirsty intentions openly proclaimed by leaders of the Palestinian cause and supported by their campus sympathizers across America. The chants shouted during “Israel Apartheid Week” this spring demand a Palestinian state “from the river to the sea.” A Palestine stretching from the Jordan River, Israel’s eastern boundary, to the Mediterranean sea, its boundary to the West, would obliterate the Jewish state, wiping it from the map. Which is precisely what these hate weeks against the Jews on college campuses are intended to bring about.
The Hamas supporters of the Palestine Club (sponsors of the hate week against the Jews on the Brooklyn campus) who came to hear my speech could only respond to the evidence I presented with this retort: “you want to lynch all Muslims.” They had no other response because there is no other response. The indisputable fact is that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority openly proclaim that Israel should not exist. Their supporters from the Muslim Students Association to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is an actual spin-off of Hamas, agree. Hence the only course open to them is to turn the aggressors into victims, and the victims into bigots.
No sooner was the video of my speech posted on the Internet than Philip Weiss who runs a blog for the Nation put up a version of the video, which had been edited with a hatchet. It is called “Horowitz Spews Hatred at Brooklyn College.” Weiss’s employer, theNation magazine, has a long history of supporting America’s enemies and their genocidal activities — from the Communists in Russia to the Communists in Cambodia and Vietnam. It came as no surprise to me, therefore, that the Nation’s leftists would be enablers of the Islamic jihad against the democracies of the West and of the war against the Jews. But even I was taken aback by the ham-fisted dishonesty of the cut that Philip Weiss had tossed off without even a note to the unsuspecting that the video had been doctored.
In Weiss’s video I am seen accusing Palestinian terrorists of being Nazis and Palestinians of having sunk to a moral low unequalled in history. But the reasons for these judgments were consigned to the cutting room floor, so they appear to be merely the kind of bilious venom that the left itself is so adept at. Here are statements I read to the audience (which can be viewed on the uncut video of my speech) from two Palestinian leaders – one the founder of Hamas, and the other the chairman of the Gaza parliament – expressing their intentions towards Israel’s Jews – and, indeed, towards all Jews:
“There is no place for you Jews among us, and you have no future among the nations of the world. You are headed to annihilation.” — Mahmoud Al-Zahar
“Be certain that America is on its way to disappear,… Allah, take hold of the Jews and their allies, Allah, take hold of the Americans and their allies… Allah, count them and kill them to the last one and don’t leave even one.” – AhmadBahar
If these are not the sentiments of Nazis, then what is?
The other statement I made, that the Palestinians are morally sick and have sunk to a moral depth unrivalled by any other people in history, was a conclusion anyone might draw from what are indisputable facts. For while ethnic groups and races have been oppressed from the beginning of time, no other people in history has strapped bombs to its own children and sent them to blow themselves up in order to kill other children, telling them that if they committed these murders they would go to heaven and become saints and, if they were lucky enough to be males, would receive 72 virgins as a reward. If this isn’t morally sick, I don’t know what is.
So for blurting out the impolitic truth I am tarred now as an anti-Muslim bigot by supporters of Jew-hatred and terror at the Nation Institute, and by their mindless cohorts on the political left, and by the supporters of Hamas among the members of the Palestine Club and the Muslim Students Association and their campus allies. I can live with that. But don’t think for a moment that this is my personal problem. It is the problem faced by everyone and anyone who will stand up to the enemies among us, who hate our freedoms, and are working within our institutions and our homeland to take those freedoms away.
Palin’s Successors (Republicans Too) Seek to Dismantle Her Energy Legacy
JUNEAU, Alaska — While every online swipe from former Gov. Sarah Palin still draws national attention and stirs fresh speculation about her political ambitions, back home she is no longer quite so imposing.
Even as she casts herself as an energy expert and is quick to attack the Obama administration on oil and gas issues, the two most prominent energy policies she put in place as governor of Alaska face new challenges less than two years after she left office.
Gov. Sean Parnell, Ms. Palin’s fellow Republican and former lieutenant, has announced that it is his top priority to undo parts of major oil tax increases that Ms. Palin made law. He argues that high state taxes, not just federal regulations, are preventing oil companies from exploring new drilling in Alaska and therefore jeopardizing future state revenues.
“Lower taxes means more competitive,” Mr. Parnell said last week. “It means more jobs.”
Sounds pretty bad doesn’t it? It is intended to. As the article goes on it does not indicate just what Changes Gov Parnell wishes to make. So how do you really know her “legacy” is at stake? The narrative that the NYT wishes you to believe is that even the Republicans thought she was misguided and had no idea what she was doing.
Are you ready for the truth? This is wht the NYT decided you didn’t need to know.
Before Gov. Palin blew the whistle about the bribes to keep the Alaska Oil Royalties down Alaska had nearly the lowest oil royalties in the world. You can examine a chart at the following link - http://www.iraqdividend.com/World_Oil_Tax_Policies.pdf
When she ran for Governor Mrs. Palin promised to make the royalties competitive so that the Alaska citizens were not getting ripped off. In fact, Governor Palin sent much of that money to Alaska residents in the form of checks directly to citizens. On top of that Alaska now has a $12 billion rainy day fund (that Democrats are itching to blow).
1 – 20% production tax credits for oil and gas investment in Alaska
2 – 22.5% tax rate on “net” positive cash flow or “Production Tax Value”
3 – Progressivity: A higher tax rate (.25) kicks in when oil sells for more than $55 per barrel.
4 – Requires a report in 2011 about how well all the incentive provisions are working to enhance exploration, development and production in the state.
The taxes the oil companies had to pay on the value of the oil increased by 22% which still puts Alaska at a below average tax rate for oil drilling. This is still a good deal for oil companies, but not one that leaves Alaskan’s short changed.
So what is the problem? As the Alaska Daily News reports, the progressive increases in the tax rate per barrel of oil get pretty high when you see oil going to $120 or $130 mark. ADN points out that most legislators did not foresee such prices as being likely. When the price of a barrel of oil gets rather extreme as it is today that tax goes up too high thus making it more profitable to pull oil resources out of Alaska and place them elsewhere.
Here is an even bigger rub, Governor Palin’s bill accounted for this and as you can see section 4 above demands a report in 2011 to see how the bill’s rates and incentives are working to prevent decreases in oil production and potential job loss. Thanks to OPEC and Obama’s illegal off shore drilling ban this is exactly what we are facing. This mandated report, as well as others, show that production and investment in Alaska has fallen since the 2009 oil price spike and is now getting worse.
As a result Gov. Parnell wishes to adjust the progressive part of the oil tax downward to attract more production and job expansion. Governor Palin would have done exactly what Governor Parnell is doing now. Parnell is not reversing Palin’s legacy, he is reaffirming it.
As the number of deans, associate deans and program directors grew at the Flint campus over the last five years, so have administrative paychecks.
Six-figure salaries more than doubled on campus since 2006, according to the newest faculty and staff salary information recently released by UM.
Nearly 50 of the roughly 1,000 employees made $100,000 or more at UM-Flint, compared to about 20 four years earlier.
Budget constraints also didn’t prevent raises. Among the top 30 earners, the average raise hovered around $3,000 with the highest raise being $10,000. The campus paid out nearly $95,000 total in raises among the top 30, according to a Flint Journal review.
Critics argue that at a time when layoffs and pay cuts elsewhere have made it harder for families to afford college, big raises and paychecks don’t help the case of colleges that continue to hike tuition every year.
“The hiring trend has unmistakably gone toward hiring far more non-teaching employees than teaching employees,” said Matthew Ladner, vice president for research at the Goldwater Institute, an Arizona-based public policy research organization that studied administrative expenses at top universities last year. “You start throwing around six-figure salaries like it’s nothing because everyone else is doing it but the status quo doesn’t work anymore. Administrative bloat is driving up costs.”
By the way, some of these Democrats do not have the funds to live in a hotel for a month on the road, so someone is donating the money and since this is out of state travel it means that the money is almost certainly illegal.
Although the Republican right-to-work proposal prompted the walkout, the protest was expanded to include education reforms.
The protesting Democrats have objected to charter school expansion in House Bill 1002, as well as a proposal to allow low-income parents to have scholarships for private school tuition.
Amid the ongoing controversy, local education reform leaders are offering the first local showing of the film, “The Cartel,” Tuesday at the Indiana Historical Society. The film shows the practical effects of the status quo in education as well as corruption in the current system. Sponsored by the Freedom Foundation for Educational Choice, this film is just one of several pleas to put children first in education.
An earlier movie, “Waiting for Superman,” offered moving accounts of children longing for a better school.
One of those better schools locally is Herron High, which state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett has cited for its gains on Advanced Placement tests. The percentage of the Indianapolis charter school’s students who passed an AP exam increased from 5 percent to 38 percent last school year. With its college prep emphasis, Herron also has seen a 78 percent increase in students who take AP exams.
It’s hard to tell why the House Democrats mixed up worker rights with opposition to education reform. In staying out to protest charters, Indiana Democrats have put themselves at odds with national Democratic leaders such as President Barack Obama and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
State Democrats also object to private school choice for low-income families. Yet that idea originated in Milwaukee with a Democratic mayor, John Norquist. A Democratic candidate for mayor of Indianapolis, Louis Mahern, advocated the idea in his campaign 20 years ago.
Where were these Democrats when Mahern was running for mayor? Where are they now when one of their own, former Mayor Bart Peterson, has helped lead the charge for charter schools?
“There’s a schism in the Democratic Party around education reform,” notes David Harris, founder and CEO of a local reform group, The Mind Trust. “A new generation of Democrats, led by the president and Secretary Duncan, is demanding we remake public education even though that means upsetting the teacher unions. But we don’t have enough Obama/Duncan-style Democrats in Indiana.”
House Minority Leader Pat Bauer has identified the reform legislation as part of a war against the middle class.
What will really hurt the middle class is killing these education reform initiatives.
Where do thousands of kids learn such nonsense in lock step. If I were a union rep I would blame the parents I imagine. Except where would the parents get everyone together to get so many thousands of kids to learn such uniform extremism?

This is an administration that does not act in good faith.
UPDATE I – Listen for yourself all:
Democrat energy policy: Less drilling, more deficit spending. Pinheads like Debbie Schultz have said that there would be “no immediate” new oil if we started drilling today is cute, but they have been saying that for 20 years. Now if we started more drilling back then, or even five years ago it would be an entirely different story. By the way Obama’s illegal drilling ban has already cost many thousands of jobs.
If I start digging a well, it will not immediately result in more water, so lets all have massive thirst. If you start your car, it will not immediately result in you being at work, so lets ban cars and have trains….
Someone is voting for these idiots.
NOTE – If Sarah Palin had uttered the shear nonsense that Schultz puts out on a regular basis it would be the headline almost every other night on the news.
Schultz has been making these kind of orbital statements for a long time. I think it is time for Rush Limbaugh to start giving her a little of what the Democrats need right now:
Japan has often donated when other countries have experienced disasters, such as when Hurricane Katrina impacted the United States. Below are organizations that are working on relief and recovery in the region.

Russia Today – Police Tyranny/Brutality on the rise in the United States:
I would like to comment on this. First of all it should be said that RT likes to portray America in a negative light as this is nothing new for them. It should also be said because they have a foreign angle, it gives them a perspective and sometimes even a clarity that domestic media lacks. While I believe that they tackled this story because it makes American look bad, in this case they did not have to stretch it much. Police brutality is on the rise and the problem with police tyranny is also something I have noticed, but what is not reported is that many of the police are not happy about it.
I am in the unique situation of having contact with many police and many people who get tickets for minor technical violations regularly, and while there are bad apples in the police, most I speak with are NOT happy about quotas for pulling people over, most are not happy about being pushed into writing full blown tickets for having just one of your two licence plate bulbs out etc, but this is what local and state governments are pushing them into. The result is bad, people are starting to resent the police. The push to suck revenue out of citizens has gone too far. Soon I expect this to become a political issue.
Bottom line, this RT piece is spot on, but for the wrong reasons.

UPDATEMarch 31 – It appears that the earthquake, which was one of the strongest in recorded in history, did place a small crack the containment bottle in one of the reactors which has resulted in water leaking from it. A cement pump is being moved on the site to bury that reactor. If the containment bottle leaks water and they cannot perfectly contain the water leaking out I am unaware of another choice.
Remember that in general journalists are not very well-educated. What they say about things like science, economics or other complicated issues is usually suspect at best. They also like to hype and create a stir for ratings. The truth is often tertiary if considered at all. Many of the “experts” they are putting on the air are nutty “no-nukes” activists. Do an internet search on every talking head you see.
I was ready to come home and write something similar to the article linked below and I have had to explain to about a dozen friends today why this is no Chernobyl and how most of the radioactive exposure has been so small that it is not near enough to get you sick. There was one burst of radiation for a few moments in one place near the reactor that was almost enough to get you sick with some prolonged exposure to that spot, but when the detectors discovered it the people were evacuated.
Our nuclear reactors, along with the Japanese reactors are a completely superior design in every way compared to Chernobyl. In fact if the troubled Japanese reactors had back up coolant generators/batteries on high ground so the tsunami couldn’t get to it there would have never even been a hitch with the exception of some sea water contamination of the coolant which is minor.

Why take my word for anything? I graduated at the top of my class at the Advanced Airborne Armament Systems School in the Air Force and that includes training in nuclear weapons and protocols. I am quite familiar with first, third and 4th generation (PBR) reactors through self study.
UPDATE I – I am watching the big networks and the NYT’s coverage and it is just irresponsible.
Tells how plant designers had safety concerns since 1972 that could result in disaster, then they tell you all of the horrible things that can happen. Oh so scary… Then many paragraphs down at the bottom they tell you that all of these plants were retrofitted with new devices to address those concerns years ago. ABC has an online article that pulled the same stunt and they did a video piece that left the retrofitting information out.
The elite media knows that most people rarely read beyond the fifth or sixth paragraph.
UPDATE II – Fox News gets the story right – LINK and watch the video.
The “explosions” were merely hydrogen getting released and/or the steam pressure being released. That explosion blew off the outer building over the three stage containment vassal. Looks bad on TV, but predictable under the circumstances. I would be quite surprised if the reactor melted through the first stage of the containment bottle and will eat my hat if it got passed the second, which is incredibly unlikely. There is still a third stage as explained in the article that will keep the worst of it bottled up quite well.
UPDATE III – ABC News and much of the other elite media are being completely irresponsible as of Wednesday. They are getting the numbers all wrong and ABC News has updates with radically different numbers.
For Example one ABC News report said that workers at the plant were exposed to .10 millisieverts which is about 1 CT scan per hour. This number is likely correct and/or close to it. It is not a level of radiation you want to stand in for a month, but is not particularly dangerous. If managed properly and certain steps are taken such as rotating people in for shifts to reduce exposure.
Then shortly after on the ABC News web site they said that radiation can get you sick and start to become deadly at 1000 millisieverts. [This is true. At 1 sievert (1000 millisieverts) if untreated there will be a 15% mortality rate. At 4.5 sieverts (4500 millisieverts) there is a 50% mortality rate within 30 days.] Then ABC said that workers are being exposed to as much as 8 times that much which is fantastically preposterous. That much radiation would be 100% lethal in a short amount of time. If radiation were passed half that the military would be pouring sandbags mixed with cement and boric acid to bury them and lower the radiation risk.
Some of these elite media reporters are paid big money and cannot seem to take the time to do a half hour of research online. Of course they have no incentive to report responsibly anyways.
UPDATE IV – The American NRC goes off the deep end…
Gregory B. Jaczko is the head of the NRC. He used to work for Senator Harry Reid, went to the University of Wisconsin at Madison and is a long time critic of nuclear energy.
Remember what I said about eco-activists? Well Jaczo is running around telling people that there is no water cooling the rods (false as reported by people on the ground) and that people there are exposed to nuclear radiation at deadly levels and that people should get 80 KM away because May, IF , Could, and people on the ground are like, umm no the reality is X Y and Z.
People on scene: Passed 20 KM no possible health risk as it stands now - LINK
Has there been any word that even the first layer of the containment bottle has been breached yet? No. As long as nothing gets passed stage two of the containment bottle the radiation risks are low. The biggest risks are the waste storage rods that were housed near by and the steam coming out of the plant. Water does not hold nuclear radiation but the minerals and other containments in the water can carry it. Since sea water had to be used the radiation from the steam is higher, but still not enough to get one sick unless one stayed in the brunt of it for an extended period of time.
Wednesday night, Mr. Jaczko reiterated his earlier statement and added that commission representatives in Tokyo have confirmed that the pool is empty. He said Tokyo Electric and other officials in Japan have confirmed that, and also stressed that high radiation fields are going to make it very difficult to continue having people work at the plant…
While radiation levels at the plant have varied tremendously, Mr. Jaczko said that the peak levels reported there “would be lethal within a fairly short period of time.” He added that another spent fuel pool, at Reactor No. 3, may also be losing water and could soon be in the same condition. Japanese efforts to pour in water by dumping it from helicopters were suspended, for fear that the helicopter crews would receive too large a dose of radiation.
This is pure nonsense folks, lies are another word for it. Now the facts from the TOKYO office of Reuters:
Wed Mar 16, 6:37 pm ET
TOKYO (Reuters) – The level of radiation detected at the Tokyo Electric Power Co Fukushima plant has fallen steadily over the past 12 hours, an official at Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said on Thursday.
A level of 752 microsieverts per hour was recorded at the plant’s main gate at 5 p.m. (0800 GMT) on Wednesday, said the official, Tetsuo Ohmura. The monitoring point was then changed to the plant’s west gate and readings were taken every 30 minutes, he said. At 5 a.m. the reading was 338 microsieverts per hour.
That level was still much higher then it should be, but was not dangerous, and that by comparison absorption of a level of 400 was normal from being outside over the course of a year, Ohmura said.
(Reporting by Terril Jones)
Notice that is MICROsieverts not millisieverts. So the radiation right there is less than 1 millisievert. A Cat Scan exposes you to 5-15 millisieverts. Jaczo needs to resign.
Jaczo is whipping up the press and the government with his comments. Is he just a pinhead activist who cannot help himself? Or is the govt deliberately whipping this up as a bigger crisis than it is with these reckless statements? We all know what this administration likes to do in a crisis.
The Heartland Institute is a think tank that focus’ on issues on the Midwest. The political arm of the think tank is traditional free market in philosophy, although they do have a science wing and an agricultural wing.
The Institute for Energy and Environmental Research is a radical environmental pressure group.
Right on their web site, “Where science and democracy come together”. Funny, when I took science they didn’t tell me it has a political ideology. Democracy sounds so nice doesn’t it? When radicals talk about “democracy” they literally mean the rule of man (them) over the rule of law. IEER pushes the radical environmental agenda from no nukes to the “sustainable development” movement which according to its founder Maurice Strong, seeks to deindustrialize the free world. Their newsletter is called “Science for Democratic Action”.
A quick look at their donor list says it all which includes: Colombe Foundation, Livingry Foundation, New-Land Foundation, Stewart R. Mott Charitable Trust, and the Town Creek Foundation. This is a who’s who of the radical left advocating planned societies, global redistribution of wealth, radical environmentalism, no-nukes, unilateral disarmament (the USA and Israel disarms – bad guys don’t) and so forth. Of course some of these organizations are connected with the Tides Foundation, George Soros and the usual suspects. Click the links to see the data.
UPDATE VII – Radiation at 3.3 millisieverts at plant as of the morning of the 18th. This is a little higher than two days ago but still far from dangerous – LINK. New power lines are being ran to the cooling pumps and they are expected to be operational by Saturday (UPDATE – lines are now connected and expect final repairs to reactivate the pumps on Sunday).
UPDATE VIII – More irresponsible reporting and it is linked on Drudge.
UK Daily Mail: The moment nuclear plant chief WEPT as Japanese finally admit that radiation leak is serious enough to kill people
Officials admit they may have to bury reactors under concrete – as happened at Chernobyl[They would have said that from day one, if they cannot save the plant this is always an option...]
Japanese upgrade accident from level four to five – the same as Three Mile Island[No one died at 3 Mile Island, in fact no one even got sick form the radiation...]
Particles spewed from wrecked Fukushima power station arrive in California[At almost a billion times less than a level that can hurt anyone...]
Military trucks tackle reactors with tons of water for second day[If they are still at the plant spraying that means the high level of radiation is right above the containment bottle and to quote my teenage daughter, "No duh" if the radiation was that high anywhere else they would already be burying it...]
It sounds ominous doesn’t it? They even said that inside the plant radiation levels hit 4,000 millisieverts which is enough to kill. But……
This piece in the Daily Mail is a completely irresponsible. They have firefighters outside the plant spraying water again. If the radiation was at 4000 anywhere but just over the containment bottle they would already be using aircraft to bury it. The fact that they are not burying it now means that they are still trying to save the plant. A partial meltdown means that the situation it is in the same technical level as 3 Mile Island with the exception that it is not bad enough to abandon hope of saving the plant yet. No one died at 3 Mile Island and no one died as a result of the radiation that was leaked. NHK has a measurement at the plants front gate every day and this morning it was at 3.3 millisieverts which is half that of a CT scan.
By the way, the Japanese only expect the partial meltdown to be 3% of the core, which is not nearly as bad as 3 Mile Island, but any melting at all puts it in the same technical category.
Fox News just interviewed a man who worked at a nuclear plant for 30 years. Notice what he says at the end.
Note – There are lots of these guys around, yet only Fox News can seem to find one …
UPDATE IX - Radiation levels still falling – LINK. Heat at two reactors below the boiling point – LINK. Power about to be restored to coolant systems – LINK.
UPDATE X – Water has begun to leak at reactor three at Fukishima. Since they are using sea water some of the water leaking out of the containment bottle is pretty radioactive. 10,000 times more radioactive than the coolant water is normally. It sounds bad and the elite media once again is hyping the situation for ratings.
But here is the rub and what the press isn’t telling you. Highly filtered water is what is normally used for coolant in a plant of this type. Why? Because it is almost impossible to make water radioactive, but that is not so for mineral and chemical contaminants in the water. Since they have been using dirty sea water the steam and water leaking from a crack in the containment bottle due to the quake would be more radioactive, but even 10,000 times more radioactive than the filtered water would not be particularly dangerous as long as the exposure was limited. The real challenge will be to make sure that said water is contained and does not leak out and cause problems.
Fortunately the restoration of the filtered water cooling is well underway. The coolant system is already functioning at one reactor and it is expected to have them working at all of them by Sunday. If the contaminated sea water has been contained it can be filtered and the contaminated waste properly disposed.
If there is a tiny crack in the containment bottle in reactor three that is a problem, but not an insurmountable one by any means. They will have to keep cooling it with the clean water till such a time where the fuel can be removed and the containment bottle replaced, or perhaps that reactor can just be replaced with a third generation design.
Perhaps in the spirit of good will the Japanese Government can assist TEMPCO to replace all of the reactors with 4th generation PBR reactors which cannot overheat or meltdown. They also do not require water, have passive safety systems that are almost perfectly effective, do not require electricity to be made safe in the event of a catastrophe. They also generate more power.
We can’t talk about schools and teachers unions without inspecting the current curriculum, which is negative about America NOW, as opposed to a straightforward account of achievements and failures.
I have written extensively about the master narrative that dominates the teaching of U.S. History in post-civil rights America throughout this website. The mobilizing of pro-government workers unions has put this issue front and center. The purpose of this blog is to remind our visitors that the humanities curriculum as it was adjusted after the assassinations of MLK Jr. and Malcolm X could have done nothing else but to intensify already existent divisions in our country, thence to under-educate the students most in need of high quality education that would prepare them to compete in the job market in fields where there is high demand for skilled labor.
I refer of course to the focus on Native Americans as victims of westward expansion; the Mexican War; slavery, the slave trade, the Civil War and Reconstruction; the Chinese Exclusion Act; the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII; and the exclusionary policies of labor unions until the establishment of the CIO. Not only these events were and are deployed by leftists and liberals to insure the hatred of “the dominant culture” (including the “racist” white working class), but these events that did of course happen, are said to linger in the present, despite a congeries of government programs at all levels, including preferential treatment in the race for college admissions, hiring in government employment, separatist ethnic studies programs in universities and colleges, and in corporations.
1960s activists against the Viet Nam war and “the system” have taken over the command posts of education and media, always in the name of a higher law than those “bourgeois” rules that constitute the basis for our democratic republic. Such high dudgeon is then used to justify lawless actions against “the system” that has tortured and dispossessed the minorities who comprise so much of the base of the Democratic Party. So although we see mostly white faces in the Wisconsin protesters, I suggest that their “civil disobedience” is experienced by them as a link to abolitionists and others who argued for “the higher law” that abrogated the Constitution, seen as a slaveholders’ document. OTOH, recall that Charles Sumner, the antislavery Senator from Massachusetts and a founder of the Republican Party, did not appeal to a higher law, but rather argued that the case for antislavery lay in the Declaration of Independence and in the Preamble to the Constitution; that the individual States were akin to Republics that should insure the promised equality in our founding documents, hence could not use “state’s rights” to justify slavery and its expansion. After the Civil War, he pleaded that the hatred must stop. For this, along with his “radical” proposal for compensating the freedmen with land and full civil rights, I have inferred that he has been diminished by some key academic authorities as harsh and extreme.
Already, government and other unions are mobilizing across the nation to strengthen their collective hands against an insurgent Republican Party. It is to be hoped that the public will use this opportunity to examine every phase of our educational system, including the demoralizing curriculum that is hurting everyone, indeed, that in tandem with much of the mass media, is inspiring cynicism on a massive scale, threatening to bring down the Republic, a Republic that is our “last best hope” for the future of our species.

If you want to know what is going on with the economy today, Dick Morris has a very good explanation here.
Dick Morris was the political strategist for Bill Clinton for many years.
Speaking of the former President, Bill Clinton seems to have had enough. He is openly criticizing Obama’s mis-steps with the economy, especially the illegal offshore drilling ban, the yanking of coal permits etc.
This may have also been a political shot across the bow. The Obama Administration has been jerking Hillary around. The State Department thinks it has agreement across the administration on Middle-East policy makes a cautious but sensible statement on the position of the United States and Obama comes out the very next day and contradicts it. This kind of thing happens too much. Niall Ferguson asked if we have two foreign policies and mocked the administration. That shows a great immaturity at the White House. It also confuses and undermines the confidence of our allies.
This has happened too many times to be an accident.
Being a cabinet Secretary is a brutal job. It is often seven days a week and 13 hours a day. Most Cabinet Secretaries last around 20 months. Obviously there are exceptions but that tells you how brutal the job can be. I have seen recent pictures of Hillary lately and she is not looking well.
I am not saying that Hillary resign because she is doing a bad job, although she is not among the best who had held the position, she should resign because the situation in the administration is intolerable and may be designed to do her political damage.
And look at what party gets most of the fat cat money? Looking out for the little guy my rear.
So do these groups contribute massive funds so that the politicians will faithfully follow the Constitution? No, most of them want favors, and most favors have questionable ethics and constitutionality.
The only answer is to strip politicians of some power to do these favors.
Warning! If you are a far left academic, if you are the kind of pinhead who screeches ”Xenophobe!” at the slightest display of national pride, this video will make blood shoot right from your eyes.
What other famous faces do you see in this video? There are several, including a young Irving Berlin.
Obama takes credit for global oil production going up, but this is in spite of him not because of him. domestic Oil production is down 13% since he was elected, he has instituted an illegal offshore drilling ban which he is in contempt of court for. Thousands have lost their jobs. But look at what Obama says below.
Obama knows he can tell the fattest whoppers imaginable and the elite media will cover for him. Luckily we have blogs, talk radio and a Fox News that is willing to tell both sides.
President Obama told the American public on Friday:
So any notion that my administration has shut down oil production might make for a good political sound bite, but it doesn’t match up with reality. We are encouraging offshore exploration and production.
The Obama administration continues to delay or defer action on developing our domestic resources of oil and natural gas at every turn.
“The trend is alarming. The administration has postponed lease sales in offshore areas. It has cancelled lease sales in onshore federal lands. It has extended permitting timelines for current leases and added unnecessary regulatory burdens. It has chosen inaction on essential energy projects that would create jobs, drive economic growth, and boost federal revenues.
“The administration is well on its way toward creating higher gasoline prices for Americans.
“To get more oil and gas, we need more access. Placing more government lands and waters off-limits and forcing companies to focus on areas that may show little promise even if already under lease will not solve our energy challenges.
Dana Perino is right.
It is frightening that the Obama Administration is so willing to openly lie to the American public.

American network reporters present tendentious coverage of Saturday’s gruesome murder in Itamar, question fact it was a terrorist attack. Israel’s Government Press Office ‘dumbfounded, astonished’
Israel is demanding an apology from CNN over its coverage of Saturday’s terrorist attack in Itamar claiming it was “tendentious and deceptive.” Government Press Office director Oren Helman sent a letter to CNN’s Bureau Chief Kevin Flower saying he was astonished at the network’s coverage of the ruthless attack.
A CNN website report avoided describing the event as a terror attack, noting that the Israel Defense Forces consider it an act of terrorism. “Only you decided to use the term terrorist attack in quotation marks, as if this were not necessarily the case,” Helman wrote. “There is a limit to the extent of objectivity regarding such a horrific deed.”
The CNN report stated: “Five members of an Israeli family were killed in the West Bank early Saturday morning in what the Israeli military is calling a ‘terror attack.’”
The report went on to say: “According to a military spokeswoman, an intruder entered the Israeli settlement of Itamar near the northern West Bank city of Nablus around 1 am, made his way into a family home and killed two parents and their three children.”
The IDF’s official statement noted that forces were searching for a “terrorist” and not an “intruder” as the CNN report noted. The terrorist was also referred to as an “assailant” later in the report. There was no mention of the possibility this was the act of a Palestinian terrorist.
The BBC also referred to the terrorist as an intruder in its report. “The family – including three children – were stabbed to death by an intruder who broke into their home, Israeli media reported,” the BBC reported Saturday. Readers might deduce the family members died in a failed burglary attempt.
The BBC went further and evinced its stance on Israel’s policy in the territories. “Nearly half a million Jews live in more than 100 settlements built since Israel’s 1967 occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem,” the report stated. “They are held to be illegal under international law, although Israel disputes this.”
A few observations on Donald if I may. Are conservatives are open to a Trump candidacy, respectfully I believe it is the wrong time for that question. What we need to be open to right now is ideas and anyone talking about a run had better have some good ones.
If Trump runs win or lose he will at least bring some good ideas to the table.
He talks about how many others have ripped us off, there is truth to this, but we, also as well as he, needs to take a long look at ourselves. We have to be honest with ourselves and realize that we have made some poor choices in our leaders; such as how our government helped to orchestrate this latest mortgage/banking crisis. Pointing fingers at others may be warranted, but it is also easy to do.
I am eager to see more.
Human Events latest article on Trump is right HERE.
On Nov. 4, 2010, as soon as the election results were in and they were sure their candidate had won, faculty administrators at Oregon State University gave new meaning to the term “political payback.”
They initiated an attack on my three children – Joshua, Bethany and Matthew – for the purpose of throwing them all out of the OSU graduate school, despite their outstanding academic and research accomplishments. OSU is a liberal socialist Democrat stronghold in Oregon that received a reported $27 million in earmark funding from my opponent, Peter DeFazio, and his Democrat colleagues during the last legislative session.
Thus, Democrat activist David Hamby and militant feminist and chairman of the nuclear engineering department Kathryn Higley are expelling four-year Ph.D. student Joshua Robinson from OSU at the end of the current academic quarter and turning over the prompt neutron activation analysis facility Joshua built for his thesis work and all of his work in progress to Higley’s husband, Steven Reese. Reese, an instructor in the department, has stated that he will use these things for his own professional gain. Joshua’s apparatus, which he built and added to the OSU nuclear reactor with the guidance and ideas of his mentor, Michael Hartman, earned Joshua the award for best Masters of Nuclear Engineering thesis at OSU and has been widely complimented by scientists at prominent U.S. nuclear facilities.
Meanwhile, faculty member Todd Palmer notified four-year Ph.D. student Bethany Robinson (OSU grade point average 3.89) that he was terminating her thesis work and taking all of her work in progress for himself. Some of Bethany’s graduate work has already been used, withoutcreditto Bethany, in the thesis of another favored student now recently hired on the department faculty.
My children and I attempted to counter all these actions against us as they unfolded, but were initially uncertain as to their ultimate intent. All became clear, however, when OSU faculty administrators abruptly took a further and very serious prejudicial action toward Joshua. At that point, OSU Professor of Nuclear Engineering Jack Higginbotham, who was privy to all of the meetings and actions, warned us and came to our defense.
Professor Higginbotham, who also serves as president of the OSU Faculty Senate anddirectorof the Oregon NASA Space Science Consortium, has been a member of the OSU faculty for 24 years. He has held many responsible positions in the university and has received numerous professional awards. Moreover, he is very widely admired for the many instances in which he has given special help to students at OSU. This is a man who thinks always of his students and never of himself.
Professor Higginbotham warned us that faculty administrators at OSU were working to make certain that Joshua, his sister Bethany and, if possible, his brother Matthew never receive Ph.D. degrees in nuclear engineering from OSU, regardless of their examination, academic and research performance. Professor Higginbotham then reviewed with us the details of the plan to destroy the education of these students and advised me to do anything I could to protect my children.
Since November, a remarkable battle has been raging within OSU. I considered an immediate public exposure of this plot and warned the faculty of this possibility, but instead my family and I decided to try to prevent a scandal at OSU and save the students within the confines of OSU. We fought these unprincipled academics on their own ground and held them off for four months. That effort is, however, now failing, and Joshua and Bethany are both slated for dismissal from the department of nuclear engineering very soon. Also, unless action is taken immediately, Professor Higginbotham’s career will be completely destroyed.
Solar and Wind are very expensive, harder to transmit, and inconsistent. Solar is so expensive that solar panels plants in the United States are closing and the work is going to China. China builds a coal plant every week.
All of this money going to these subsidies cannot be used for other things. Mandates on electric companies to get more energy from wind and solar are next to impossible to meet so those companies are fined, which forces energy companies to pass those fines to their customers, which helps to send more jobs overseas.
Reason TV asks, if all of these green energy mandates are going to make all of these 21st century jobs, how come in California that has totally backfired. The reasons above explain why and they are reasons that are explained in any first year macroeconomics class.
If you want to see lower energy costs and business to start coming back home there is only one solution. Throw out Democrats en mass. We have trillions in natural gas, oil and other resources that are off limits that we could use to help pay off the national debt and rebuild the economy. We also need a government that costs less than $2 trillion a year instead of the nearly $4 trillion it costs now.
