They Call It The “Palin Effect”

Posted by iusbvision on September 1, 2008

Since last weeks announcement of Sarah Palin as the Republican VP Nominee the McCain Campaign has taken in over $10 million in donations – in two and a half days. John McCain was quoted over the weekend saying that if he knew Palin could generate this much excitement he would have selected her a month ago.

As has been previously reported Palin’s announcement took the pulls from Obama’s post convention bump of Obama up by six back to McCain up by two.

Yesterday John McCain appeared with Sarah Palin as well as Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee in St Louis on a VERY hot day; 17,000 people showed up. Bloggers and media pundits have been calling it the “Palin Effect”.

Here is a C-Span video of the event. After Huckabee, Romney and McCain gave a brief statement they got out of the way and let Palin be herself. After seeing this video it becomes easy to see why she generates so much excitement.

Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail had this to day about Palin (excerpts):

From Saturday’s Globe and Mail August 29, 2008 at 11:30 PM EDT

Denver – She is a former beauty queen with a tough-as-nails reputation on government ethics and a track record of standing up to her own party. She is an evangelical Christian and a National Rifle Association member, and returned to her job as Governor of Alaska just days after giving birth to her fifth child. Her elder son will deploy to Iraq next month; her younger was born in April with Down syndrome.

And yesterday, 44-year-old Sarah Palin, an avid hunter with a taste for moose burgers, became the Republican Party’s vice-presidential nominee.

“Sarah Palin for her entire political career has been underestimated,” said Paulette Simpson of the Alaska Federation of Republican Women. “She’s tough, she’s tenacious. I believe that she does have what it takes to get out there.”

In her youth, Ms. Palin played basketball, earning the nickname Barracuda for her aggressive style of play, and friends say that nickname still fits.

“The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah,” pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign, told the conservative Weekly Standard magazine in 2007.

In 1984, she was the runner-up in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant, having won a local qualifier in which she had played the flute and earned the title of Miss Congeniality.

News of her pregnancy was kept quiet at first while Ms. Palin went about her work as governor, and her water broke while she was attending an energy conference in Texas. She reportedly delivered a 30-minute speech before flying home, where she delivered the baby boy the next morning.

In 1992 she was elected mayor of Wasilla at age 32, and served two terms before running for lieutenant-governor.

She lost that election, but was appointed in 2003 as ethics commissioner for the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.

It was in this role that she got her reputation as a tough critic of her own party. She exposed ethical violations by the state’s Republican Party Chairman, Randy Ruedrich, an AOGCC commissioner.

In 2005, she co-filed an ethics complaint against Attorney-General Gregg Renkes, whom she found had a financial interest in a company involved in a trade deal that he was helping to craft.

Both men resigned, but Ms. Palin, too, left her post, citing a “lack of ethics” within the state’s Republican leadership.

She ran for governor in 2006 on a pledge to bring principles to the party, and became the first woman and the youngest person to hold the state’s highest office. To get there, she defeated two former governors in the primary and general elections, including the former Republican senator who had appointed her AOGCC ethics commissioner during his gubernatorial term.

Alaskan Carrie Hollier, a 27-year-old supporter of Democratic Party presidential candidate Barack Obama, said she would feel some wistfulness about not voting for a governor she admires.

“It definitely makes it difficult, because you can’t help but love Sarah Palin. She never comes across as full-on Republican.”

Biden: Israel Will Have To Accept a Nuclear Iran

Posted by iusbvision on September 1, 2008

Both Ha’aretz, a left of center Israeli news organization, is reporting that Senator Joe Biden, Obama’s VP running mate, has told Israeli officials that Israel will have to accept a nuclear Iran.

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was quoted Monday as telling senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran.

In the unsourced report, Army Radio also quoted Biden as saying that he opposed “opening a additional military and diplomatic front.”

Biden, chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has long been considered strongly pro-Israel. His nomination as Barack Obama’s running mate had been expected to shore up the Democrats’ strength with U.S. Jewish voters.

Army Radio said Israeli officials expressed “amazement” over the remarks attributed to him.

“Israel will have to reconcile itself with the nuclearization of Iran,” Army Radio quoted Biden as telling the unnamed officials.

If this was just one news outfit reporting this and an un-named course I would not post it, but Israeli Army Radio is saying this too…and now so is the Jerusalem Post. The Jerusalem Post also says that Biden said the same thing three years ago when talking with Israeli government officials”

Security officials expressed concern Monday over statements reportedly made by US Democratic vice presidential candidate Joseph Biden regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Army Radio reported that the Delaware senator was heard saying in closed conversations with Jerusalem officials three years ago that he was firmly opposed to an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

I get a shudder when I think of history’s consequences of when evils such as Iran’s leadership gets appeased.

UPDATE: I see beat me on this story. What can I say, they are good.

UPDATE II: Biden’s campaign says that the report is a lie spread by partisan opponents? Umm Ha’aretz, Israeli Army Radio and the JPost are partisans now?

Newest Democrat Lie Against Palin – She is a Secret Nazi…

Posted by iusbvision on September 1, 2008

Having been a political writer for some years now, usually the far left pulls the Nazi card towards the end when it is clear that they have already lost the argument. I have been accused of this by a few left wing faculty at IUSB and by a handful of Marxist students and, like I said, it usually comes when they have already lost the argument. Desperate times require desperate measures so now the Democrats are leading with this nonsense. Of course my record of supporting civil rights, free speech, free conscience and limited government more than speaks for itself.

Here is the story from Ha’aretz, a left of center news outfit in Israel.

Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler of Florida lashed out Saturday at John McCain’s choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, accusing her of supporting “Nazi sympathizer” Pat Buchanan, and branding the move an “affront to all Jewish Americans.”

Pat has unconventional views to be sure, but no rational person would say he is a Nazi. Unfortunately for the Democrats, their own cook fringe is in the leadership.

The Republican Jewish Coalition chimed in with a reality check:

“As governor of Alaska, Palin has enjoyed a strong working relationship with Alaska’s Jewish community. She has demonstrated sensitivity to the concerns of the community and has been accessible and responsive,” said coalition Executive Director Matt Brooks.

If Palin’s views on Israel were any different from McCain’s she would not be the VP nominee. Anyone with a residue of political knowledge understands that. Expect more smears and gender attacks against Palin.

UPDATE  – Palin keeps an Israeli Flag in her office next to ger blue star flag for her son who is in the military. The video on this site shows it right on the window in her office. Another lie debunked. Special thanks to for a heads up on this one and the great picture:

UPDATE II: Obama’s spokesman echoed the Nazi charge and believe it or not MSNBC blew the lid of this one. Come to find out Palin was never a Buchanan supporter.

Here is more refutation-
