Governor Palin Has Shocked the World

Posted by iusbvision on September 3, 2008

UPDATE: Holy Cow! Palin and Rudy did it with a broken teleprompter – they winged it!

Local Reaction –

GOP Congressional Candidate Luke Puckett – I can tell you that what the American people saw last night in public is the same person that she is in private.

Indiana State Representative Jackie Walorski – I was in a meeting in a restaurant this morning in South Bend and several people stopped me, either walking in or as I was walking out, to high five me and they couldn’t contain their excitement either.

*******

Palin to media – I am not going to Washington to seek your good opinion…

Howard Wolfson, Hillary Clinton’s Communications Director – Palin was very, very, very good. She took the knife and stuck it in Barack Obama and twisted it with a smile on her face. The Democrats have cause to be concerned…

Stately News Anchor Chris Wallace – A star is born tonight. That is the single most compelling Republican argument I have ever heard.

The New Republic -Who’s the Celebrity Now? Something rather astounding is happening in this campaign. Sarah Palin may single-handedly be giving John McCain another chance at a victory which seemed a distant hope after Obama’s night at Invesco (which now feels like a month ago).

NPR’s Juan Williams – I am surprised at the power she has. She is like an expert knife fighter, cutting and parrying perfectly and with good humor. She performed like a champ. She can play in this game.

Matt Drudge – She Did It Her Way – Wonder Woman!

Democrat Pundit, Editor of Roll Call Magazine, Mort Kondrake – Simply Brilliant! Sophisticated and effective.

Alaskan business owner in Anchorage Daily News– Our mama beats your Obama

Rich Lowry – Barack, Meet Your Nightmare

Nina Easton, Fortune Magazine – Palin ate it up! Her speech was a home run.

Fred Barnes – Its a gift, she is a natural.

Brit Hume – Palin has proven that she is no rookie politician.

POW who served with McCain in the Hanoi Hilton in a comment to Laura Ingraham – Conservatism is back!

Chuck Norton – Ronald Reagan is back, and she’s the Governor of Alaska.

IUSBVISION – flipping through the channels – the elite media are VISIBLY shaken and depressed, they are in shock and it is glaringly obvious. I hope I can find this clip of NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on youtube – I say with all seriousness that she looks like someone just told her a parent died. Palin went after the elite media with both barrels and with a joyous tone and face looked the elite media dead square in the eye and blew them away….and turned them into moose stew.

more soon…

NBC’s Maria Bartiromo with Tom Brokaw – Energy Policy is her comfort zone – Msunderestimated has video of Maria’s Bartiromo’s interview with Palin.

UK Times – Like a moose going after a cabbage

UK The Sun – Palin was stunning

Chicago Sun Times – She has the heart of a street fighter

Ann Coulter – The best man turned out to be a woman. Palin will appeal to the narrow 59 percent of Americans who voted for another former small-market sportscaster: Ronald Reagan.

Halperin – Grade A+. The Alaska Governor was poised, stirring, charming, confident, snarky, cozy, well-rehearsed, biting, utterly fearless, unflappable, and self-assured.

Sen. Olympia Snowe– It elevates all women

Democrat Strategist Kirsten Powers – A feminist dream at the GOP. Alaska girls kick as*… Last night, “Sarah Barracuda” more than lived up to that slogan… Turns out old feminism is really just a bunch of good ‘ole girls telling you what to think.

NY Post – SHE’S A ‘PIT BULL WITH LIPSTICK’ PALIN WOWS ‘EM BY POUNDING DC SNOBS

Ed Morrissey – Palin delivers a knockout

Senator Orrin Hatch – It’s exciting! I became teary eyed, Republicans are going to put the first woman in the Whitehouse! My constituents are calling me and telling me “she is one of us.”

Bristol Palin’s Future Husband

Posted by iusbvision on September 3, 2008

Levi Johnston to join Palin family at convention

By RACHEL D’ORO, Associated Press Writer
Tue Sep 2, 9:44 PM ET

WASILLA, Alaska – The boyfriend of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s unwed, pregnant daughter will join the family of the Republican vice presidential candidate at the GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn.

Levi Johnston’s mother said her 18-year-old son left Alaska on Tuesday morning to join the Palin family at the convention where Sen. John McCain will officially receive the Republican nomination for president. The boy’s mother, Sherry Johnston, said there had been no pressure put on her son to marry 17-year-old Bristol Palin and the two teens had made plans to wed before it was known she was pregnant.

“This is just a bonus,” Johnston said.

Well partisan witch hunters, gender attackers and corrupt media hacks, there is your big scandal. Feel better now?

UPDATE: By the way – Democrats Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has 5 kids, she has been in politics a long time and became Democratic Party Chairman of Northern California in 1977. Anyone remember the kind of sexist attacks her cohorts are making against Palin? I wonder how many times Pelosi was told to go home, get out of politics, you don’t have a right to pursue a career, and take care of your kids because you aren’t much good for anything else.

Congressman Michele Bachmann, who is a mother of five, worked for the Treasury Department in the 80’s and 90’s and has been in politics since she worked on Ronald Reagan’s presidential campaign. When she runs for re-election will she be attacked like this?

Ending the Biggest Lie Against Palin – Called Troopergate: Hey Ladies How Would You Deal With a Violent, Reckless, Out of Control Rogue Cop Who Threatened Your Family’s Life and Stalks Your Relatives – All While His Fellow Cops are Covering for Him.

Posted by iusbvision on September 3, 2008

You see it everywhere in the press, they accuse Sarah Palin of abusing her power in trying to use illegal methods to get her former brother-in-law fired from the police force. What they don’t tell you are any of the important details.

Read this post carefully, as it may be the most important post I make during the campaign.

Before I continue, when I was the afternoon drive host on AM 1580, domestic violence was my chosen charity issue. I interviewed people from the local women’s shelter from time to time to keep the issue in the minds of the audience. The most moving story was from a women who we will call Julie. Julie was a battered wife and I mean beaten senseless repeatedly. Her husband was a cop. She tried to file police reports, other cops would either refuse to take the reports or testify. After many years of this abuse, she finally managed to get out and start a new life. Julie remarried and then it started again; an ongoing harassment from her cop ex-husband. Report after report filed and would the police administration do anything? Nope. There are many women out there who have lived this very nightmare.

Sarah Palin’s sister has gone through an ordeal not all that dissimilar.

Mike Wooten is a State Police Officer in Alaska. According to court documents he is a mess of trouble. Wooten’s troubles include drinking beer in his patrol car, illegally shooting a moose, and he even tasered an 11-year-old child. Sarah Palin’s sister filed for divorce, due to abuse and threats she filed for a protection order. Wooten said that he would shoot Palin’s father in the head if he hired a lawyer for his daughter.

The threats continued. Palin’s family filed complaints using the normal channels. The police refused to investigate their peer seriously; including refusing to take statements from several witnesses. The Palin’s even had to hire a private investigator to take statements from witnesses in an effort to get those statements entered into the record.

As far as the Palin’s knew Wooten had gotten away with it all. Wooten even bragged to them that nothing had happened to him. What the Palin’s didn’t know is that the police union intervened and got Wooten’s punishment reduced to a five-day suspension. It was the good old boy network all over again.

Later Palin had a policy dispute with the state public safety official who has oversight of the state police. Since that office serves at the pleasure of the governor, Palin asked him to take a new position in the administration.

Frank Bailey, a friend of the governor who works for the administration, asked about Wooten because no one knew till much later that Wooten was punished at all even with the 5 day suspension. Everyone in the administration thought nothing was being done at all. Palin said that Frank was just being a friend but acceded his authority in making the phone call.

That is the big so-called “scandal”. The press knows it and decided you didn’t need to know the details. There are few examples that demonstrate the depth of media corruption and partisan sliminess more than this.

Here are the court documents which have been posted at Politico.com. Read for yourself, the details are a bit disturbing.

UPDATE: Here is Video of the ABC News Hit Piece that aired last night just before McCain spoke. As you can see it contains none of the issues contained in the official documents and what is on this very blog. It was posted on Politico so there is no way ABC News could say that they weren’t aware of it. All they mention in the video is a “custody issue”.

Media Lie of the Day Against Palin – Washington Post: She Slashed Funding for Teen Mothers (actually she increased it from 1.2 million to 3.9 million)

Posted by iusbvision on September 3, 2008

~

UPDATE II – Newsweek Publish’s this LIE today (September 6th, 2008)  http://www.newsweek.com/id/157541/output/print

UPDATE  – Charity Says Hey Our Funding Wasn’t Cut!

Covenant House Alaska issued a press release and Dr. Warren Throckmorton secured a copy of it which can be viewed in full here. Here is an excerpt:

Covenant House Alaska is a multi-service agency serving homeless and runaway youth, including teen mothers. The majority of the agency’s annual operating budget is privately raised, with no more than 10 to 15 percent of funds coming from state grants in any given year. We are grateful for the support we have received from Governor Sarah Palin, the Alaska legislature and our Congressional delegation over the years.

Despite some press reports to the contrary, our operating budget was not reduced. Our $3.9 million appropriation is directed toward a multi-year capital project and it is our understanding that the state simply opted to phase in its support for this project over several years, rather than all at once in the current budget year.

******************************************************************************************************

There it was in the Washington Post – big letters: Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms.

By Paul Kane
ST. PAUL — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation — “SP” — Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

According to Passage House’s web site, its purpose is to provide “young mothers a place to live with their babies for up to eighteen months while they gain the necessary skills and resources to change their lives” and help teen moms “become productive, successful, independent adults who create and provide a stable environment for themselves and their families.”

Palin’s own daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant and has plans to wed.

Sounds horrible and viciously hypocritical doesn’t it? That is the point, but it is all a complete lie.

Michelle Malkin and other bloggers looked up the records and guess what they discovered in mere minutes.

The documents show here, here, here, and here that Palin did not cut the funding from $5 million to $3.9 Million – Passage House had $1.2 million in state funding and Palin agreed to increase that funding to 3.9 million rather than $5 million; this means that Palin agreed to increase this funding by 225%. Only to Democrats and idiotic media pundits out on a crusade of hate is a 225% increase considered a cut.

No retraction from the Washington Post.

McCain Campaign, I know you guys read this blog, take my advice, you need to go on a constant, incessant, nonstop, hardcore offense. Think Fred Thompson speech 24/7.

UPDATE – US Magazine Casts its Vote (Hat Tip Mat Drudge):

UPDATE II – Much of the press had nothing but glowing things to say about stong mothers who are governors, including this glowing media coverage of Palin from Newsweek Magazine, but that was before she tried to stop Barack Obama so now it has all changed.

UPDATE III – Megyn Kelly Destroys US Magazine Editor on the air – Video at Msunderstimated.

Media Bias You Can Believe In III

Posted by iusbvision on September 3, 2008

Dr. John R Lott, famed professor, author and economist conducted a media analysis, that quite frankly speaks for itself. Here are excerpts so be sure to follow the link to read more:

First impressions count a lot. The media coverage last week introduced the Republican and, to a much lesser extent, the Democratic vice presidential nominees to the American people. The coverage not only tells us something about how people will view the candidates, it also tells us something about the media and the parties themselves.

For Biden, the top ten terms found were: experience (excluding “executive experience”) (69%), abortion (21%), liberal (11%), safe (7%), long-winded (5%), moderate (5%), plagiarism (3%), gun-control (2%), executive experience (2%), and exaggerate or exaggerated (dealing with exaggerated claims he made about his college grades and accomplishments that helped end his 1988 race) (1%).

For Palin, the top ten were: conservative (49%), abortion (44%), brother-in-law (picking up claims that she improperly tried to get her ex-brother-in-law fired) (17%), corruption and oil (17%), risky or risks or risk (16%), glass ceiling (13%), Quayle (10%), exciting (9%), inexperience OR “lack experience” OR “limited experience” (8%), and bold (8%).

This is not an exhaustive list, but it does point to some significant differences in coverage. While 49 percent of the articles mention that Palin is a conservative, only 11 percent of the pieces on Biden use “liberal,” just twice as many of the articles that label him moderate. There is no doubt that Palin is a conservative, but Biden’s legislative record should likewise put him squarely in the liberal category and it would seem to be just as important in describing who Biden is to voters.

The National Journal, a respected bipartisan publication, regularly examines the voting records of all members of congress, and it found that Biden was the third most liberal member of the Senate in 2007, even more liberal than self-described “socialist” Bernie Sanders from Vermont. Indeed, with Obama’s No. 1 ranking, the Democratic ticket appears to be the most liberal presidential ticket ever.

Negative terms were used far more frequently to describe Palin than Biden. For example, Biden was forced to exit the 1988 presidential race because he was involved in plagiarism and exaggerated his college record, but few articles mentioned those issues – only 3 and 1 percent respectively.

By contrast, Palin’s nomination was more than twice as likely to be described as “risky” than as “bold.” Terms associated with negative claims about Palin were far more likely to get mentioned. The third most frequently used term involved an ethics charge against Palin that she fired the state public safety commissioner because he wouldn’t fire Palin’s former brother-in-law. 90 percent of these stories failed to mention that the brother-in-law was in trouble for threatening to kill people.

Palin was compared to Dan Quayle at about 3 times the rate that Biden’s plagiarism issues were raised. With a historic nomination of a woman and one with a better chance of winning than Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, surprisingly about the same share of articles mentioned the “glass ceiling” or “exciting” or “bold” as “Dan Quayle.”

September 3rd Politics Roundup

Posted by iusbvision on September 3, 2008

This will be updated during the day.

And now the woman of the hour – Governor Sarah Palin

There is a time for politics and there is a time for leadership – a time to campaign and a time to put our country first.

Children with special needs inspire a very special kind of love. To the families of those with special needs across the country I have a message for you. For years we have struggled to make a world more accepting of your sons and daughters and if elected you will have an advocate in the Whitehouse.

This is America and every women can walk through every door of opportunity.

Comment – the tone and style and grit of her delivery is very effective. I am just too caught up in this speech to live blog worth a darn – she is gripping…

Joe Biden – I would not want to be you…..

About our opponent – he has authored two self memoirs and no significant legislation or reforms.

There are those who use “change” to promote their careers and there are those who use their careers to promote change.

Comment – she is ripping Obama’s economic plan apart. I cant wait to post this video. To say she has come out swinging is an understatement.

My fellow Americans, the campaign for the presidency is not supposed to be a journey of personal discovery. [wow]

Comment – Palin has got the personal flaws and strategy flaws of Obama pegged – she is going to tear their campaign to pieces.

For a season a gifted speaker can inspire people by his words, for a lifetime a man can inspire a nation by his deeds.

Comment – Sarah Palin has shocked the world.

Brit Hume says – Palin has proven that she is no rookie politician. She loved every minute of it.

Democrat Mort Kondrake – Simply Brilliant! Sophisticated and effective.

Nina Easton Fortune Magazine – Palin ate it up! Her speech was a home run.

Fred Barnes – Its a gift, she is a natural.

News Anchor Chris Wallace – A star is born tonight. That is the single most compelling Republican argument I have ever heard.

Howard Wolfson, Hillary Clinton’s Communications Director – Palin was very, very, very good. She took the knife and stuck it in Barack Obama and twisted it with a smile on her face. The Democrats have cause to be concerned.

Comment – I am flipping through the channels – the elite media are VISIBLY shaken and depressed, they are in shock and it is glaringly obvious. I hope I can find this clip of NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on youtube – I say with all seriousness that she looks like someone just told her a parent died.

America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani is speaking

Imagine that you have two job applications in your hand with the names and party affiliations blacked out…

On one resume – He worked as a community organizer..WHAT?!? … He immersed himself in Chicago machine politics, he ran for state senate and got elected where he voted “present” 130 times. That’s funny, when I was Mayor I never got the choice to vote “present”. Obama was faced with a decision and he couldn’t make up his mind. As mayor and as governor Sarah Palin never had the chance to vote “present”.

Obama has never lead people in crisis. No one can look at John McCain and say he is not ready.

There is good change and bad change. Because “change” is not a destination … just as “hope” is not a strategy.

For 4 days in Denver the Democrats were afraid to use the words “Islamic Terrorism.” Who are they afraid that they are going to offend with those words? Democrats just a short time ago said “this war is lost”. John McCain got it right and Barack Obama got it wrong.

Senator McCain was the candidate most associated with the surge. And it was unpopular.

What do you think most other candidates would have done in that situation? They would have acted in their own self-interest by changing their position. How many times have we seen Barack Obama do this? Obama was going to take public financing for his campaign, until he didn’t.

Obama was against wiretapping before he voted for it.

When speaking to a pro-Israel group, Obama favored an undivided Jerusalem. Until the very next day when he changed his mind.

I have some advice for Joe Biden, if I were you I would get that VP thing in writing.

John McCain said, ‘I’d rather lose an election than a war.’ Because that’s John McCain.

When Russia rolled over Georgia, John McCain knew exactly how to respond.

Having been to that part of the world many times and having developed a clear worldview over many years, John knew where he stood. Within hours, he established a very strong, informed position that let the world know exactly how he’ll respond as President. At exactly the right time, John McCain said, “We’re all Georgians.”

Obama’s first instinct was to create a moral equivalency – that “both sides” should “show restraint.” The same moral equivalency that he has displayed in discussing the Palestinian Authority and the State of Israel.

Later, after discussing it with his 300 foreign policy advisors, he changed his position and suggested that the “the UN Security Council,” could find a solution. Apparently, none of his 300 advisors told him that Russia has a veto in the UN Security Council. Finally Obama put out a statement that looked …well, it looked a lot like John McCain’s.

I have advice for Barack Obama. Next time call John McCain.

The Governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle, had a few things to say tonight. The first was a quote from President Johnson:

When the burdens of the presidency seem unusually heavy, I always remind myself it could be worse. I could be a mayor. – Lyndon B. Johnson

Palin has executive experience; as a mayor, as a governor, [and as a business owner] no one of the Democratic ticket has.

They say that Alaska is a tiny state, well last time I checked Alaska and Delaware [where Joe Biden holds office] have the same number of electoral votes and you can fit 250 Delaware’s within Alaska’s borders.

I am watching Mike Huckabee speak right now – all I can say is WOW. This is one of the greatest convention speeches in history. I had no idea Huckabee had this in him.

Dick Morris to Sarah Palin: In your speech tonight, “Don’t be a victim, be the President.” I suspect she is going to deliver.

Famed author, educator and economist Dr. John Lott had a comment about the campaign:

Obama contends that he has more executive experience than Palin. Obama compares his heading his presidential campaign to Palin being the mayor of Wasilla? Is this serious? The state of Alaska [of which Palin is governor] has a $10 billion budget and employees 25,000 people.

Youtube goodies.

Joe Lieberman’s Speech – It has his usual kindly Mr. Rogers way Senator Lieberman goes about things. Lieberman toward the end took Obama’s record apart. Lieberman ran with Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election.

Senator Fred Thompson – yes that guy from Law & Order –  gave a barn burner of a speech last night at the RNC. NBC would not air Thompson’ speech. No surprise there. If you want a synopsis of what this election boils down to, this is the speech that you want to see.

Thompson -Now our opponents tell you not to worry about their tax increases.

They tell you they are not going to tax your family.

No, they’re just going to tax “businesses”! So unless you buy something from a “business”, like groceries or clothes or gasoline … or unless you get a paycheck from a big or a small “business”, don’t worry … it’s not going to affect you.

They say they are not going to take any water out of your side of the bucket, just the “other” side of the bucket! That’s their idea of tax reform.

UPDATE – New York Post Columnist Defends Palin from the Sexist Media Onslaught:

HOLY hoop skirts: When did the clock tick back to 1958?

By Andrea Peyser

When Joe Biden tragically lost his wife and infant daughter in a car wreck in 1972, not a single colleague, friend or competitor advised him to quit his newly won Senate seat to raise his two little surviving sons.

Rather, he was sworn into office from the injured boys’ bedside, and took to commuting an hour and a half each way from Delaware to Washington. And when Biden’s second wife gave birth to a daughter, no one thought to ask him to step aside and stay home.

They all do it. John Kennedy did it; so did Barack Obama: Men run for office and serve in elected positions while creating small children without ever being patronized as “super dads” or “multi-taskers.”

Nor are they penalized, ridiculed or dismissed for ignoring their kids. They’re good dads.

If Sarah Palin, tapped as John McCain’s running mate, were a man, it’s unlikely we’d even be having this conversation. (A man, or a Democrat.)

Palin is a mother five times over. She also hunts, fishes, coaches hockey, has a day job as the governor of the state of Alaska – and is known to commute home from the state capital of Juneau daily during session. Just like Biden.

But women on the left, who fought long and hard for the ability to raise children simultaneously with election cash, are in spasms. (Some have simply kept silent. Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton – where are you?)

The same lefty media that studiously ignored the adolescence of Chelsea Clinton can’t wait to dig into Bristol Palin.

UPDATE II: HYPOCRISY BIGTIME

Remember how the Democrats went after Dick Cheney for having a student deferment during Vietnam?  Well so did Joe Biden. The AP story is here and thanks to Hotair.com for their post on the subject. Here is the attack on Cheney from liberal mainstay Slate.com calling him a draft dodger. The New York Times and the Kerry Campaign attacked Vice-President Cheney for getting a student deferment here, here and here…but that’s different because they were Republicans and Biden is a Democrat.
