ELITE MEDIA: Obama’s Treasury Secretary Doesn’t Pay $34,000 in Taxes and he is Good; Joe the Plumber Didn’t Pay $1,200 in Taxes and He is Bad and His Word is No Good

Posted by iusbvision on January 14, 2009

The elite media double standard is as blatant as can be. The attitude that the media presents facts has a huge sway over people’s perceptions.

Now here is Tim Geithner, a smart guy and a financial guru, and even with help he could not get his taxes right. How many of us little people are fined, jailed or harassed for lesser mistakes? Could it be that this is a case to overhaul and simplify our ridiculously complex tax code? IF the Treasury Secretary can’t do it even with help, who can?

Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood had tax problems that were much less and their nominations were nixed. So why the double standard for this guy? Joe Biden says that it is patriotic to pay more taxes so is Geithner unpatriotic?

President-elect Barack Obama’s choice to run the Treasury Department and lead the economic rescue effort disclosed publicly Tuesday that he failed to pay $34,000 in taxes from 2001 to 2004, a last-minute complication in an otherwise smooth path to confirmation.

Timothy Geithner paid most of the past-due taxes days before Obama announced his nomination in November, according to materials released by the Senate Finance Committee. He had paid the remainder of the taxes in 2006, after the IRS sent him a bill.

The still-unpaid taxes were discovered by Obama’s transition team while investigating Geithner’s background.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said he still hoped Geithner could be confirmed on Inauguration Day. Obama’s staff told senators about Geithner’s tax issues Dec. 5.

“These errors were not intentional; they were honest mistakes,” Baucus said after he and other committee members met with Geithner behind closed doors.

Geithner, plucked from his job as president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to serve as Obama’s treasury secretary, told transition officials and senators that he didn’t know he owed self-employment taxes when he worked for the International Monetary Fund.

He failed to pay self-employment taxes for money he earned while working for IMF from 2001 to 2003, according to materials released by the Senate committee. In 2006, the IRS notified him that he owed $14,847 in self-employment taxes and $2,383 in interest from 2003 and 2004. The IRS waived penalties for those tax years.

Transition officials discovered last fall that Geithner also had not paid the taxes in 2001 or 2002. He paid $25,970 in back taxes and interest for those years several days before Obama announced his nomination, the committee documents showed.

Geithner also said he didn’t realize a housekeeper he paid in 2004 and 2005 did not have current employment documentation as an immigrant for the final three months she worked for him, the documents indicated.

Geithner is the second Obama nominee to face controversy. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson withdrew his name on Jan. 4 as Obama’s commerce secretary after questions surfaced about a federal investigation concerning contributions and a state contract.

Pentagon: 61 ex-Guantanamo inmates return to terrorism

Posted by iusbvision on January 14, 2009

I seems that all of the people held at Guantanamo weren’t innocent victims of the evil Bush after all:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Pentagon said on Tuesday that 61 former detainees from its military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said 18 former detainees are confirmed as “returning to the fight” and 43 are suspected of having done in a report issued late in December by the Defense Intelligence Agency.

JPOST: Hamas raids aid trucks, sells supplies

Posted by iusbvision on January 14, 2009

Recently we reported that Hamas admits to using civilians as human shields and how they gunned down a Palestinian wedding party for the crime of “singing” and now we have this from the jpost:

Jan. 12, 2009

Hamas on Monday raided some 100 aid trucks that Israel had allowed into Gaza, stole their contents and sold them to the highest bidders.

The IDF said that since terminal activity is coordinated with UNRWA and the Red Cross, Israel could do nothing to prevent such raids, Israel Radio reported.

Between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the army had ceased all military activity in Gaza and once again established a “humanitarian corridor” to help facilitate the transfer of the supplies.

The Kerem Shalom and Karni crossings had been opened to allow in the aid trucks.

Security officials at Kerem Shalom thwarted an attempt to smuggle electrical goods, disguised as humanitarian supplies, into Gaza. The electrical goods included computers, infra-red cameras, ovens, microwaves and other electronic equipment.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak has forbidden the entry of electronics to Gaza since the goods do not fall under the category of humanitarian aid. Some electronic equipment has been let in as per an official Palestinian request, such as equipment used to repair the damaged electrical grid in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israel is considering establishing a field hospital in the Gaza Strip to treat Palestinian civilians wounded in fighting between the IDF and Hamas.

The plan would be to establish the field hospital outside the Gaza Strip, but the IDF is also considering the possibility of erecting the hospital inside the Palestinian territory so it will be more accessible to the Palestinian population. It would be run by the IDF Medical Corps.

Also Monday, in an effort to promote Israeli humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, the Defense Ministry launched a new Web site that provides a live video feed of the Kerem Shalom cargo crossing, through which international organizations have been transferring basic foods and medical supplies to Gaza.

The footage can be viewed HERE.

Since the beginning of Operation Cast Lead, the IDF has facilitated the transfer of close to 900 trucks into the Gaza Strip with over 20,000 tons of basic foods and medical supplies.

More Media Bias: Geraldo vs. Coulter

Posted by iusbvision on January 14, 2009

In this video Geraldo does what so many unprofessional journalists do. Make so many accusations and make everything about Ann so they can never get to the substance of the book or in this case make it about the smear site Media Matters. You will notice that in most of the Coulter interviews the interviewer does anything they can to keep from genuinely discussing the substance of the book.

Geraldo is usually a pro, but he is so emotionally biased and has such an inability to engage Coulter on issues of real substance that we are treated to useless interviews like this.

Ann is right that there is fraud in the Franken/Coleman recountincluding the fact that some districts have more votes for Franken than they have registered voters.
