UPDATE II – A governmemnt report shows that drug cartel machine guns are coming from FARC/Hugo Chavez – LINK. Mini-Update: The government was lying. The number of guns in mexico that get traced back to the US is 17%……we told ya so.

UPDATE: CNN gives a similar analysis as IUSB Vision:

BUT a few years ago CNN faked the story in much the same way ABC did by calling these guns “machine guns” and NRA’s Wayne LaPierre called them on it and CNN ran a correction.

*****original story******

The Obama Administration already has talking points filled with lies to fool you into accepting this.

Of course, the last time they passed this it made no difference in crime at all and gun buyers eventually found ways around it. Criminals do not prefer expensive long guns, they like cheap guns they can hide.

ABC News:

Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban
Previous Ban Expired in 2004 During the Bush Administration
By JASON RYAN
WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2009-

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

“As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons,” Holder told reporters.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

“I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.” Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S.

Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S.

A State Department travel warning issued Feb. 20, 2009, reflected government concerns about the violence.

“Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades,” the warning said. “Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez.”

At the news conference today, Holder described his discussions with his Mexican counterpart about the recent spike in violence.

“I met yesterday with Attorney General Medina Mora of Mexico, and we discussed the unprecedented levels of violence his country is facing because of their enforcement efforts,” he said.

Now here is where the lies come in and its the same as the old lie.

The weapons they are calling “assault weapons” and want to ban are not the low to medium powered, selective fire, automatic weapons see on TV. They are NOT machine guns. Yet those who want to take away your ability to defend your freedom with effective means always TALK about machine guns, and machine guns are what they show on the news when they talk about this, but the guns they want to ban fire ONE bullet with each pull of the trigger and are functionally no different from a 1911 Colt .45. These guns LOOK like assault rifles but they lack assault rifle functionality.

It says in the article that the drug cartels in Mexico have automatic weapons, that means machine guns. American gun stores don’t sell machine guns. That’s right folks, it’s the old bait & switch.

The last time the Democrats did this they got creamed come election time. Bush dared the Democrats to pass it and threatened to sign it knowing that the Democrats would get the blame. Rank and file union members have shown that they will vote Republican in a heartbeat over this issue.

This is why Nancy Pelosi told Eric Holder NO WAY.

Obama talked over and over how he supported the Heller decision (granted he flip flopped on it but he did say it) and opposed gun bans. No one who supports the Heller decision by the Supreme Court could possibly support any kind of ban of this kind.

UPDATE II – This blog has more on ABC News’ chicanery. This blog HERE has another good explanation.

UPDATE III

A New Assault Weapons Ban Will Not Reduce Crime In This Country

By Dr. John R. Lott, Jr.
Author, “Freedomnomics“/Senior Research Scientist, University of Maryland

It is pretty hard to seriously argue that a new so-called “assault weapons” ban would reduce crime in the United States. Even research done for the Clinton Administration couldn’t find that the federal assault weapons ban reduced crime.

There are no academic studies by economists or criminologist that find the original federal assault weapons ban reduced murder or violent crime generally. There is no evidence that the state assault weapons bans reduced murder or violent crime rates –and there’s even some evidence that they may have caused murder to actually rise slightly. Since the federal ban expired in September 2004, murder –and overall violent crime rates– have remained virtually unchanged.

If Holder thinks that it is so easy to control drug gangs’ access to guns, one way to show it is by proving that he can stop drug gangs’ access to drugs.

In fact, when the assault weapons ban went off into the sunset in September 2004 there was no explosion of murder and bloodshed as gun control advocates feared. Immediately after the law expired murder rates fell and they fell more in the states without state assault weapon bans than the states with them.

UPDATE IV – Hey remember THIS?

3 Responses to “Eric Holder says “Hey lets ban guns” and Pelosi says “Are you nuts?””

  1. I couldn’t disagree agree more with your comments.

My background and couple of comments:

I am an American that is retired and living in Mexico full time and have lived here for the last 8 years. I don’t smoke, drink or use drugs and don’t moralize about those that do as long as they don’t infringe on my space.

Sorry to break it to you, but you don’t know frijoles (beans) about the gun trafficking into Mexico. It is common knowledge and well documented that most of the high priced fire power that the narco-traffickers have in Mexico is coming in illegally from the US.

It never ceases to amaze me that the same people that wrap themselves in the American flag and proclaim that their ‘God given’ 2nd amendment rights allow them to own almost any weapon under the sun, in the same breath say that Iran or North Korean shouldn’t be allowed to have nuclear weapons.

I agree that Iran or North Korean and probably Pakistan shouldn’t have nuclear weapons. And Joe Six Pack down the street has no business owning or selling an AK47 or Browning M2 heavy machine gun for that matter.

Some say after forty years, there has been NO PROGRESS in the drug war.

If you are apart of DEA, ONDCP and other ‘law enforcement agencies’ you have seen your operations and budgets grow. Your departments also get a piece of the drug bust ‘action’ to fund you program.

If you are manufacturer of military gear that is used to fight the War on Drugs you have also seen growth & profits.

If you are a politician, you have a moral cause to fight against. It’s a source campaign rhetoric and donor funding.

If you are in the leadership position of a drug cartel you own one of the world’ largest and profitable untaxed enterprises and you will do anything to keep it that way.

So legalization would eliminate the above referenced ‘progress’.

Guns, bullets and government troops don’t strike fear into a narco-traffickers hearts, only legalization does and the prospect of greatly reduced profits.

    [Joe,
Did you even carefully read the article?

What part of American gun stores dont sell AK-47’s or Browning M2 machine guns don’t you understand?

If your drug cartels are buying assault rifles or other machine guns, they are NOT getting them from American Gun Shops. It is likely that they are buying them through foreign governments or even more likely that the cartels obtain the weapons from curruption within the Mexican Government.

American gun stores sell guns that look like assault rifles, but they shoot 1 bullet at a time with each pull of the trigger. They are NOT machine guns. They do NOT spray bullets like you see on Miami Vice re-runs. Got it?

It gets better. In order to pass ATF and customs rules for importation, they have to be made so it is nearly impossible to convert them to selective fire. If any were easy to convert, their importation would be banned on the spot.

I am sorry I have to be so tough with you but it is fairly obvious that you posted the typical knee jerk reaction out of pure emotionalism rather than reading for comprehension. – Editor]

Speaking of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder:

Eric Holder is a racial-minority individual, and in his heart and mind he inevitably does not endorse hate crimes committed by George W. Bush.

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

    Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

    Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memories so they never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.

[I am sure Saddam believes that the Iraq invasion was a hate crime too, but the millions and millions who have just voted in a violence free election In Iraq, and the Kurds, might take issue with your “unique” point of view.

For years the far left complained that the United States used unsavory characters like Saddam to help fight Soviet expansion (indeed the far left opposed our opposition to Soviet expansion totally) so when we removed the worst of these they cry “imperialism”. Of course Andrew has no posts to show me critiqueing Saddam’s genuine war crimes. Nor has he any posts about the crimes committed by UN soldiers all over the world, because they would not give him an opportunity to bash America.

There was no need to tell us that you went to Messiah College. High School graduates have way too much common sense to believe such nonsense. Indeed one can only become so radicallized and so divorced from reality in college or a state run re-education camp. Messiah is much like Hamline in that subversive progressive secular leftists are trying to take the place over.

You say that Bush is like a fugitive from justice; you my friend are a fugitive from reality. Have you considered calling Dr. Phill?- Editor]
