Surprise: British Press Smearing Daniel Hannan

Posted by iusbvision on March 26, 2009

Here is the hit piece that Channel 4 in England did on Daniel Hannan.

One talking head says Hannan wants no regulation at all, which of course is silly. Even the most strident of hands off conservatives/libertarians wants good ethics policing to prevent fraud and abuse as they consider that one of the vital and proper roles of government.

They call American web sites “right wing” and yet the socialist man from “Labour’ is not called left wing (It is important to keep in mind that “right wing” in Europe is very different from the more libertarian “right” in America so Channel 4 just got it wrong).

Another talking head refers to him as “batty” and after calling him all these names and mischaracterizing his position they bring him on to talk about the reasons and facts behind the speech… NOPE… but to comment on the “mysterious” popularity of it.

The man from Labour then starts making all sorts of personal attacks and name calling. The “moderator” from Channel 4 does not stop it and does not invite Daniel Hannan to respond to such nonsense.

This is refreshing. Here is Dan Hannan on FNC. He is shocked that Fox News is treating him like he is a human being. He said yesterday on FNC that he would never get asked good questions on any British TV. Here Hannan delivers a fabulous one liner:

“It’s common sense when you are in debt you spend less. Anyone but a politician can see this.”

UPDATE: I have been going through all his speeches and now I understand why the left and the British press are so desperate to smear this man…. he is gooooooood. This speech short speech (about the EU Decleration of Rights is useless because structurally the EU is fundementally unresponsive to the people) is like music. Give it a listen.

EU president: Obama’s plans are the way to hell.

Posted by iusbvision on March 26, 2009

STRASBOURG, France —  A top European Union politician on Wednesday slammed U.S. plans to spend its way out of recession as “a way to hell.”

Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, whose country currently holds the EU presidency, told the European Parliament that President Barack Obama’s massive stimulus package and banking bailout “will undermine the stability of the global financial market.”

The DC Examiner: Expanded Americorps has an authoritarian feel

Posted by iusbvision on March 26, 2009

DC Examiner:

With almost no public attention, both chambers of Congress in the past week advanced an alarming expansion of the Americorps national service plan, with the number of federally funded community service job increasing from 75,000 to 250,000 at a cost of $5.7 billion. Lurking behind the feel-good rhetoric spouted by the measure’s advocates is a bill that on closer inspection reveals multiple provisions that together create a strong odor of creepy authoritarianism. The House passed the measure overwhelmingly, while only 14 senators had the sense and courage to vote against it on a key procedural motion. Every legislator who either voted for this bill or didn’t vote at all has some serious explaining to do.

Last summer, then-candidate Barack Obama threw civil liberties to the wind when he proposed “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the regular military. The expanded Americorps is not quite so disturbing, but a number of provisions in the bill raise serious concerns.

To begin with, the legislation threatens the voluntary nature of Americorps by calling for consideration of “a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people.” It anticipates the possibility of requiring “all individuals in the United States” to perform such service – including elementary school students. The bill also summons up unsettling memories of World War II-era paramilitary groups by saying the new program should “combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service,” while establishing “campuses” that serve as “operational headquarters,” complete with “superintendents” and “uniforms” for all participants. It allows for the elimination of all age restrictions in order to involve Americans at all stages of life. And it calls for creation of “a permanent cadre” in a “National Community Civilian Corps.”

But that’s not all. The bill also calls for “youth engagement zones” in which “service learning” is “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.” This updated form of voluntary community service is also to be “integrated into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics curricula” at all levels of schooling. Sounds like a government curriculum for government approved “service learning,” which is nothing less than indoctrination. Now, ask yourself if congressmen who voted for this monstrosity had a clue what they were voting for. If not, they’re guilty of dereliction of duty. If yes, the implications are truly frightening.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin on Obama’s Youth “Volunteer” Corps

This is just creepy…

Hateful left filing bogus charges against Palin in an attempt to bankrupt her.

Another reason to have “loser pays” laws.

Governor Palin:

Governor Comments on Latest Bogus Ethics Complaint

March 24, 2009, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin issued the following statement in response to another ethics complaint filed today. Filed by an Anchorage political blogger, the complaint alleges the governor “… improperly used her position and state resources to serve her personal financial interests by being a walking billboard for Arctic Cat …”

“Are Alaskans outraged, or at least tired of this yet – another frivolous ethics charge by a political blogger? This would be hilarious if it weren’t so expensive for the state to process these accusations and for me to defend against these bogus harassments. Yes, I wore Arctic Cat snow gear at an outdoor event, because it was cold outside, and by the way, today, I am wearing clothes bearing the names of Alaska artists, and a Glennallen Panthers basketball hoodie. I am a walking billboard for the team’s fundraiser! Should I expect to see an ethics charge for wearing these, or the Carhartts I wear to many public events? How much will this blogger’s asinine political grandstanding cost all of us in time and money?”

This case was filed by a far left blogger who is obsessed with Governor Palin and a fast google search demonstrated that pretty fast.

The blogger is:

Linda S. Kellen (aka: Linda Kellen Biegel)

She has this information posted proudly in her complaint.
