Huffington Post Smear Job; Used Faked Video to Accuse Fox News of Racist Comments – UPDATED!

Posted by iusbvision on February 20, 2009

[We made a high quality copy of the fake video from youtube in case someone tries to hide the evidence. Kudos to Johnny Dollar on this great story. – Editor]

UPDATE – The fake video was altered in the last few minutes by adding a script to it saying that John Gibson really didn’t say it. Scripts in Youtube can be added even log after a video is posted. We will be posting the original video shortly as we were able to copy it before hand.  The fake video before it was altered can be seen HERE.-Editor  (Everyone is trying to watch this video and it is timing out, if it is not working for you please try again later or check out a high definition copy I uploaded HERE. )

UPDATE II – The Huffington Post has now replaced its original story. They are admitting that the video was faked. I took a screenshot of the original story so you can view it HERE.

Notice the picture in the upper left hand corner that says “McCain’s lady lobbyist drops lawsuit against the New York Times”; this is spin. The lobbyist in question was accused of having an innappropriate relationship with John McCain by the NYT based on nothing. The NYT was forced to say in the settlement that there was in no way an inappropriate relationship between them and at the same time the NYT says that they stand by the story (talk about no journalistic ethics). The Huffington Post used this language to create the narrative that McCain did have an affair with the lobbyist. This is a classic example of “attitude change propaganda theory”; that is when you do not give all the facts, but you present some of the facts with an attitude that creates a narrative in the readers mind that is not the real story. The Huffington Post is a smear site and a propaganda outfit so it is no surprise that they would engage in these kinds of tactics.  – Editor

UPDATE III– Fox News has asked Youtube to pull the faked smear video. I don’t blame them. This is a vicious smear and those who perpetrated it are criminals in my book. Dear Fox, I am trying to get the truth out so please don’t have my video yanked. – Editor

UPDATE IV– Huffpo says they got the faked video from Mediabistro/TVN. Mediabistro says it was received from an anonymous tipster. Here is the rub, anyone who carefully listens to it can tell that the offensive/faked comment was not John Gibson’s voice. There is little doubt that the Huffington Post wanted this to be true so bad they could taste it. The Huffington Post has even smeared this very blog in times past and we wore their critique as a badge of honor. Huffpo, you ran with it, you own it.

UPDATE V: Johnny Dollar posted the video of John Gibson responding to this smear attack against him. Here it is:

Patterico has a humorous and intelligent poston this whole mess. Remember that Huffpo was named as one of Time Magazines 25 best blogs. Many of the 25 were far left smear sites. No regular blogs that cover current events made the list.

UPDATE VI– Welcome Drudge Report and Brietbart readers. We updated the title of the video to “The Faked Video Used by Huffington Post (or TVN?) to Smear Fox News- Unaltered” When I cloned the video it was before the denials were even issued, and now people are (surprise) throwing blame off of themselves now that the cat is out of the bag. We have no way of knowing for sure whose denials are true or false. – Editor

Update VII Creator of the fake video found and his story doesn’t jive with reality

John Sanders is the technology reporter for WBAL-TV in Baltimore. TV Newser/Mediabistro who provided the fake video to the Huffington Post started out in Baltimore. I love a good coincidence don’t you? Sanders is the creator of the video. Brietbart News tracked him down and interviewed him. Sanders claims that he made the video as a joke and he claims that the minute he uploaded it he put an annotation box on the video saying that John Gibson didn’t say what was in the video.

There is no other way to say this other than that is just not the case. The video was up for some time before the annotation box was added and that was after the reality of the video’s doctoring was starting to explode in the blogosphere. I had watched that video multiple times and cloned it and no annotation box appeared until later in the day. – Editor

UPDATE VIII – Sanders is fired by WBAL according to reports from Johnny Dollar, Fox News, and StinkyJournalism.org. The conjecture is that his damaging faked video was made using WBAL equipment, which opens up all sorts of liability for WBAL and it’s parent company.

Huffington Post Smear of Gibson Uses Doctored Video!

A headline at Huffington Post blares: John Gibson Compares Eric Holder To Monkey With Bright Blue Scrotum (VIDEO). Writer Alex Leo lays it all out:

At the end of a long and pointless conversation between two Fox News reporters covering a zoo escape, John Gibson compared Attorney General Eric Holder to a monkey…. At 2:48, they toss to John Gibson who complains that he can’t get away with saying “bright blue scrotum” on the radio then follows that up by saying, “We were talking about Eric Holder today on the radio and his bright blue scrotum.”

Here’s the HuffPo video [this video was later altered with a script box after the word got out. See our update section for details . Update – Fox News had the faked smear video yanked. I don’t blame them. – Editor]:

Hundreds of HuffPo commenters erupted in predictable outrage:

  • FOX continues to prove it is part of the most racist network since the KKK
  • John Gibson should be fired.
  • These guys are unbelievable. Racism and Gibson’s fixation for blue scrotums together would baffle when Freud himself.
  • this is not surprising john gibson is a bigot and has never denied it.
  • i hope Keith Olbeman has a special comment about this isses!!!
  • Keep digging Faux, just keep on digging yourselves into a marginalize racist pit of despair.

There’s only one problem with all this: the video posted by HuffPo is a fake. The three words allegedly spoken by Gibson, “bright blue scrotum”, are actually in Trace Gallagher’s voice. Those words were lifted from a few moments earlier and pasted over Gibson’s actual sentence: “We were talking about Eric Holder today on the radio and his comment that this is a nation of cowards.” But don’t take our word for it. See, and hear, for yourself:

This story has already spread through the Fox hater echo chamber and it’s still propagating tonight. It’s even shown up at Keith Olbermann’s blog, with another passel of outraged comments from the gullible.

The Huffington Post has some ‘splaining to do. Why are they presenting a doctored video? Who altered the soundtrack? Who knew and when did they know it?

Most of all they need to make a big-time apology–with the same prominence and bold-type headline as their phony smear.

  1. […] The Huffington Post claims they got the video from TVNewser, but obviously did not verify its accuracy. Several commenters note that an ‘annotation’ (words that pop on the screen) has now been added to the youtube video by its poster, admitting that Gibson didnt say ‘bright blue scrotum’. But the original doctored video (without the disclaimer) was saved and can be found here. […]

So the truth is HuffPo called Holder a Monkey with a “Bright Blue Scrotum”

Should we now call Huffpo The BBS?

You guys are doing a FANTASTIC job of following this story!

It’s my hope that someone holds Mr. Sanders’ (the video editor)feet to the fire. Huff-Po and TVN inexplicably seem to have little interest in that.

Yeah…Huffington Post…it is nothing more than a propaganda site claiming to be a political news blog…I used to participate in discussions there but after I wrote three unfavorable pieces of satire regarding Obama during the primaries, they canceled my user name and erased my account…I wasn’t even allowed the opportunity to access messages I had written earlier…I used no profanity or racial slurs but instead wrote commentary about the fanatical attitudes of the anointed savior’s followers…so much for their pretend defense of freedom of speech…nearly everything on HP is a propaganda stunt…nothing on that site should be taken seriously by anyone…

[Indeed, I study propaganda because I have a bit on an interest in it. I checked out your web site and I like the design. Don’t take what Kanjorski said in that video too seriously though. He wasn’t being totally honest in his explanation. Thanks so much for reading!- Editor]

  11. […] I’m sure most everyone is now privy to the Huffington Post debacle. In short, the Post made a less-than-wise decision when it passed a phony video of a Fox news segment as true, ostensibly in an attempt to discredit the commentators at Fox News. It was a political cheap shot that backfired once it became apparent that the video had indeed been doctored. More information is available here. […]

Don’t feel too bad it is the common tactic of most left wing blogs to silence opposition. It has happened to me same thing no profanity but spirited debate get them everytime.

[LOL, this blog and it’s editor have stood up for free speech in ways that you likely have never had the courage to do. We simply corrected the record.

I find it interesting just how far removed from reality that your comment is. Someone does a pro editing and sound board job on John Gibson to make him say things he never said in order to make him look like a racist when he is not, the HuffPo reports the false story with glee (too good to check) and you say that it is WE that are trying to shut people up.

We don’t do splice jobs on people and never have.

Please examine the “SHUT_UP” page at the top of the home page, perhaps you will learn something. – Editor]
